Milestones evacuated after small grease fire
By Stacey Escott
Diners at Milestones restaurant on the east Mountain got a surprise when a fire alarm went off and they had to leave the building.
Just before 3 p.m. Sunday, a small grease fire started in the kitchen but was quickly put out by fire crews using extinguishers.
Nine units were dispatched to the Paramount Drive and Upper Mount Albion Road location after a reported structure fire, but most units were sent back soon after they arrived.
The biggest difficulty crews had to deal with was some smoke in the restaurant, according to John Verbeek, assistant chief fire prevention officer.
Some firefighters stayed to help clear smoke from the building and check the vents above the cooking equipment.
There were no injuries.
And no damage estimate yet, but Verbeek expects it will be minimal.
