A portion of Eastland Mall was evacuated Saturday afternoon as fire crews responded to a fire at TGI Friday’s.
The fire began in the restaurant’s kitchen behind a broiler, said Evansville Fire Investigator Jennifer Hunt.
Restaurant staff thought they had put the fire out before fire fighters arrived, but it had spread within the wall. Fire crews on scene saw smoke coming from the roof and ventilation ducts, Hunt said.
Firefighters ran hoses into the kitchen through the back employee entrance and the front customer entrance. The fire, and damage, was contained to the back wall area TGI Friday kitchen.
No one was injured, and fire crews evacuated the mall’s food court area as a precaution.
